CONVERSATIONS FROM A RETREAT
March, 2016
Q: I trust this practice that we’re doing here – and it’s so simple.
Linda: That’s true. When the big realisation does happen, when suddenly you go beyond the mind, the simplicity of it is the shocking thing and you feel, “How could I not have seen that?” It’s so incredibly simple. But your mind is going to keep trying to complicate it saying, “You need to do this. You need to do that, blah, blah, blah. This is too simple.” It’s incredibly difficult because it’s so simple. A lot of people – from what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard – don’t trust someone like me because I’m too simple, I’m too ordinary. Someone actually said that a while ago, “She can’t be enlightened. She’s too ordinary.”
Q: I have friends who’ve said that. And they don’t come because they think it’s not possible.
Linda: It’s amazing. It’s not possible because I’m this ordinary human being. And what they’re really saying is that it’s not possible for them, I’m too much like them. I need to be different. I need to be dressed differently. I need to be a different race, preferably Indian or Japanese or something…
Q: Or at least live overseas… far enough away that it’s comfortable.
Linda: One day, when you’re free they’ll say, “That’s impossible. It’s not true. My friend can’t be. That’s impossible.” It has to happen to someone else. It’s like saying, “I’m going to die another time. Not now.”
Q: But you could look at it another way. I like your ordinariness, because then you can say, “I’m just an ordinary person and she’s just an ordinary person, so I can do that.” So it just depends how you see it.
